Valve has made adjustments to the rules for hosting tournaments in Counter-Strike 2. A new clause was added, outlining the procedure for disqualifying teams from licensed competitions.
On the evening of August 5th, a new section 5.4 was added to Valve’s regulations. It states that tournament organizers can establish rules that allow for the disqualification of teams found guilty of cheating or violating rules, as well as those flagged by other esports organizations as suspicious or posing a risk of unfair play during the tournament. Event administrators will need to provide a detailed explanation for their decision to exclude a team at the time the decision is made. Additionally, teams involved in dishonest practices may be banned from being invited to other licensed tournaments based on Valve’s ranking system, according to the new rule.
The rule update comes in the wake of an incident involving Joel “joel” Holmlund and his team BCGame at CCT Season 2 Europe: Series #7. During a match against B8 Esports, the Swedish player was banned for using third-party software. His team was disqualified from the competition, and both the tournament operator and the anti-cheat developers confirmed that the player’s ban could not be a mistake.
